Information Summary from OPM FF13 Blow-out

June 24, 2009

We've taken the time to read through the Official Playstation Magazine Exclusive FF13 Preview and we've picked out the best and new bits for everyone to see. No scans here out of respect for the mag, but here's some summarized info of what was said - and we encourage you to pick up the magazine for the full article.

OPM were clever enough to finally ask the FF13 team for some answers on what some of the outlandish terms we've been hearing in trailers and the like mean. Here's the highlights:

The fal'Cie aren't beings - they're more like objects of deity. There are too many in the world of FF13 to number, but only a handful will be relevant to Lightning and her story. One that lives inside Cocoon has the power of the sun and acts as the protector of the light - others out in the field will be things like the protector of nature, and so on.

The l'Cie are people who have been 'marked' by the fal'Cie to have a certain, unknown destiny. They gain powers from the fal'Cie. They are seen as enemies as it is believed that the l'Cie will destroy Cocoon. Lightning and Snow are both supposedly l'Cie, and the rest of the party are likely to be too. None of them are happy about being a l'Cie.

PSICOM is Cocoon's Army, and protect the people who live there from threats including the l'Cie. Lightning and Sazh were both likely members of PSICOM in the past. A resistance group known as Team Nora is fighting against PSICOM. (FF7 flashbacks, anyone?)

Variety in battles will come in a variety of forms - enemies will look and fight differently depending on the fal'Cie in the area you are in, and the same attack may have a different form or animation depending on what was used immediately before or after it. Eidolons (Summons) will be made available to the player through story events, likely by the fal'Cie.

There's more tidbits in the article, though much of it is older information from Japanese magazines confirmed for the first time in the West. Naturally, we'll bring you all the latest FF13 news as we get it - be sure to sign up to our RSS Feed or Follow Us on Twitter to stay in the loop!
