The fishing game is Breath of Fire 4's biggest and most rewarding side-quest. First of all, all fish you catch have an use as an item, which are all various, and very usefull as well.

Second, fish can be traded for various items with Manillos, creatures which look like fish, and can talk and walk like humans. This will also reward you with stamps and cards as well, which can also be traded for even better items.

And third, the fishing game itself is rewarded with game points when new kinds of fish or a new record in size of a fish is caught, and game points play an important role in the dragon meditation skills. Asside from all this, the fishing game is also ammusing or at least fun when you're bored, it does bring some stress sometimes, like it did to me, but the results are worth it.
